Halloween trick-or-treating in downtown Toronto’s St. Lawrence neighbourhood

If you have a downtown kid looking to go trick-or-treating near the St. Lawrence / Old Town / Distillery District / Corktown / Canary District areas of downtown Toronto, we know just the place. Let me introduce you to Longboat Avenue.

Longboat is a short street just south of The Esplanade, east of Sherbourne. This street, along with a few others in the area, are filled with townhouses – townhouses where most residents are fully in the Halloween spirit. Most front yards (and some garages) are decked out in various Halloween decorations and, I can confirm, the residents are super hospitable and fun.

You may even come across a dinosaur running around the street. It’s true.

There are very few cars, and lots of families and kids around. It’s a fun night out, for sure. Many of the adults even dress up.

Some of the co-op buildings in the area also get into the spirit, handing out candy in their lobby.

We’ve gone to Ward’s Island in the past for Halloween which is really great – but the ferry and such may be a bit much, especially if the weather is poor. Lately, we’ve been opting for Longboat – and intend to return again!

See you this year? Tell the dinosaur guy this writer said ‘hello.’
